Four Glee Club students at Georgia Tech (Atlanta, Ga) decided in the mid-1950s to form a quartet

Techniques

Four Glee Club students at Georgia Tech (Atlanta, Ga) decided in the mid-1950s to form a quartet and try their hand entertaining locally(lead Buddy Harold, tenor Jim Tinney, baritone Jim Falin and bass Jim Moore), calling themselves the Techniques. After being "discovered" by producer Bill Lowery they were handed a song written by Buddy Funk titled "Hey! Little Girl" (not the same song as the hits with the same title by Del Shannon, Major Lance and Dee Clark - each of which was, in turn, an entirely different song).

Produced by Lowery and cut in late 1957 for his local Stars label, with an opening sounding very much like The Crew Cuts, it was backed by "In A Round About Way" on Stars 551. As it began to get some decent airplay locally it was snapped up by the much larger Roulette Records and re-released as Roulette 4030. By late November/early December "Hey! Little Girl"t peaked at # 29 Billboard Pop Top 100 chart.

As it turns out, however, that would be their only claim to fame as neither of the follow-up releases in 1958, "(Why Did I Ever) Let Her Go"/"Marindy" (Roulette 4048) and "Moon Tan"/"The Wisest Man In Town" (Roulette 4097) went anywhere. They just sort of faded from view after that. In the 1960s a Reggae group from Jamaica would operate under the name The Techniques, as would another from Pennsylvania calling themselves Jay & The Techniques (unrelated).
