The Skillet Lickers was a country music group that recorded in Atlanta - all members having GA roots

Skillet Lickers

The Skillet Lickers was a band formed in 1926 by Gid Tanner of Monroe, GA that was considered to have pioneered country music in the early 1900's. They signed a recording contract with Columbia Records in 1924 and recorded over 88 songs. Bob Dylan wrote and performed a version of Gid Tanner's "Down on Tanner's Farm" which can be heard in Martin Scorses's "No Direction Home", a 2005 documentary on Dylan. The group were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 1988.
